Story: Jean Gerbino (1876-1966) was a well known French master ceramist. He opened a workshop in Vallauris, in the south of France, in 1930. He developed a mosaïc technique of using small bits of various colored clays joined in sheets, which he formed in molds. The pieces were fired twice, with the second clear glaze firing giving them a glossy finish.
