Predominantly made from meunier, with a little time in oak, this Extra Brut Champagne brings together ripe orchard fruit, fresh citrus and a subtle richness, without losing its freshness.
Producer: Champagne Anthony Betouzet, Dormans, France
In the heart of the Vallée de la Marne, Anthony and Émilie Betouzet continue a family winemaking tradition that began in 1963. Their eight-hectare estate is now certified organic, producing small-scale Champagnes that celebrate the character of their vineyards and the art of traditional winemaking. Terre de Grès is the estate's signature cuvée, made predominantly from meunier and pinot noir, with a touch of chardonnay. Part of the wine is vinified in oak barrels, bringing depth and texture, while a particularly low dosage of just 2g/L preserves its natural freshness. The result is a characterful Extra Brut Champagne, equally at home served as an apéritif or enjoyed throughout a meal.
What we say: "A lovely discovery from a family estate that puts as much care into its vineyards as its Champagnes. Terre de Grès has a pale golden colour and a delicate stream of fine bubbles. The nose opens with white flowers and fresh citrus, with hints of lemon, grapefruit and tangerine. On the palate, it's generous and rounded, with lively fruit, lovely freshness and a long finish. A Champagne with real character, without being overpowering. One we'd happily open for an apéritif with friends or serve throughout a meal."
